Salina Mendoza is the 2019 OC Laureate
A laureate is someone awarded for outstanding creative or intellectual achievement. These individuals are celebrated for the way they inspire and for their contributions to the community.
As a nonprofit organization dedicated to storytelling, we want to honor storytellers in our own backyard. The Orange County Laureate program celebrates community members who inspire us, through storytelling, community engagement, or education (art, literature, music, history, science, technology).
Throughout the year, Salina will help Heritage Future connect, educate, and partner with our community to provide our diverse neighborhoods with creative and cultural opportunities.

Salina Mendoza is a 28 yr old self-taught abstract geometric artist born in Orange, CA. She started her journey into art in 2nd grade when she discovered her passion for cartoons in North Hollywood, CA. After almost getting expelled from school for her dark cartoons, she chose to pursue her passion for math instead.
Salina was recognized by Johns Hopkins University for being top 3% in the nation for mathematics in 2nd grade. During her senior year of high school (2010), she became a recipient of the “Dell Scholarship” by Michael & Susan Dell Foundation supporting her dreams of going to college. Salina eventually graduated from Chapman University with a degree in Business Entrepreneurship (originally accounting). During her junior year of college, she picked up painting again as an emotional outlet. In 2015, Salina started canvas painting and in January of 2017 she was discovered by RAW Artists. She had her first showcase in January 2017 at RAW OC's "CUSP" show at the Yost Theatre. Shortly after, Salina was invited to All The Arts for All The Kids Foundation's Auction at Fullerton Museum in April of 2017. She won her first award (Jurors choice) at her first juried show at All The Arts for All The Kids Foundation Auction. In summer of 2018, Salina had her first group gallery show at Beyond the Lines Gallery in Los Angeles, CA. Later in 2018, Salina was accepted into the prestigious Art Venture show hosted by the City of Costa Mesa at Segerstrom Center for the Arts. Salina also had her first solo exhibit at City of Costa Mesa City Hall. In 2019, Salina won her second award as the 2019 OC Laureate presented by 1888 Center (now Heritage Future). In spring of 2019, Salina had her second solo exhibit at 1888 Center in Downtown Orange.
Currently, Salina is a Costa Mesa resident, works with growing startup brands, and partners with local city governments to grow their art communities. She’s been building and growing startup brands/products for the last 9 years. Salina finds her artwork complements her technology experience and helps her create out-of-box solutions in the process. She is an advocate for underprivileged youth, young entrepreneurs, and community-minded art initiatives.
Salina Mendoza is an American artist whose work is associated with minimalism, hard-edge painting, and repetitive use of lines. Her work is inspired by uncomfortable emotions observed in the real world, brain vibrations, repetition, color, and mental health. She starts every piece without a destination in mind and upon completion, she writes a story about the emotions/feelings she felt while creating the piece or the emotions she felt from her environment.
