"Trigger points" (Original)
Acrylic spray paint and acrylic paint marker on canvas
[27 x 40 in] with frame
There are moments in life where we see ourselves suddenly reliving traumatic life experiences. It can start from a trigger point. The one time we fell off a sled, our parents divorce, our potential fiancé cheating on us, breaking our leg while snowboarding, or seeing our mom run from immigration. It's uncomfortable. We act out and everything starts to irritate us. It's like it's happening all over again. But...it isn't. Something was triggered in our brains to feel fear and to take us to the place we've been before - to protect us from harm. Yet, we are harming ourselves by continuing to not be intuitive with our feelings. To not admit we have these triggers because sometimes we don't even know we have them until it's too late.
