We are all different people with different life experiences and ways of dealing with our own traumas. Some of us have experienced oppression beyond what we can even begin to explain in words. Some of us have had minimal experience in being oppressed and may have an entirely different view of what “oppression” truly is. When we experience a crisis as a global community, there may be some of us that are quick to victimize ourselves as oppressed while others scoff at the thought of defining certain experiences as oppression. We all have our soft spots that make us act out of character. We may not realize our actions until we’ve already put ourselves out there. But in times of uncertainty, we should all remember that we all have a soft spot.
